Discover Horombo Hut (3720m)
Horombo Hut (3,720m) is the second overnight stop on the Marangu Route, reached after a 6-7 hour trek from Mandara Hut that takes climbers out of the rainforest and into the open, rolling moorland zone dotted with giant lobelias and heather. Perched on a scenic ridge with sweeping views of Kibo's summit and, on clear days, Mawenzi's jagged peaks, Horombo offers a striking change in scenery along with noticeably cooler temperatures and thinner air. As one of the larger camps on the mountain, complete with hut accommodations, Horombo also serves as a key acclimatization stop, with many itineraries including an extra night here for a day hike to Zebra Rocks, helping climbers adjust before the demanding push toward Kibo Hut and the summit.
